Transition Services & Planning:
For blind or visually impaired high-school students
Blind Field Services is:
Part of the Specialized Services Division of the California Department of Rehabilitation. BFS staff work with blind or visually impaired persons to find employment and educational opportunities to help them get a job. Our transition services include a variety of pre-employment and career planning workshops, volunteer and work experience, and more.
Types of Transition Services:
*Some services are granted based on financial status. External resources are used when available.
- Coordination of services from high-school to higher education or job training, and the world of work
- Information & referral services for educational, training and employment programs
- Job readiness workshops
- Summer & seasonal work experience and internship opportunities
- Assistive Technology when appropriate
- Skills for living independently
- Orientation and mobility
- Communication skills (i.e. Braille; large print)
- Assistance with college planning
- Reader services
- Job placement assistance
